Cash-strapped offspring are increasingly turning to their parents for help, with almost half of first-time buyers now reliant on their families to help fund their first property, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
The council’s latest re-search shows that 46 per cent of people under 30 are getting financial help from relatives to raise a deposit, up from 10 per cent in 1995.
Whereas most commentators would usually suggest that London would lead the way in this heat is apparently Northern Ireland but as the infamous record of having the highest number of first-time buyers needing relatives for financial assistance to get on to the property ladder. {Buyers receiving help typically put down a deposit of £57,000 in London last year.| The average deposit for property nowadays put down by first-time buyers is apparently £57,000 in London.| A staggering £57,000 deposit is the average deposit now being raised by first-time buyer’s for properties in London.) This is more than twice the amount in any other region, underlining the high barriers to home ownership in the capital.
The situation in Scotland is almost up the complete opposite to that in Northern Ireland where first-time buyers were the least likely to get assistance from their parents.
According to data provided by the survey that level of assistance from families areas throughout the United Kingdom. A survey by Alliance & Leicester, the lender, found that the average amount handed over was £18,000 last year.
“There has always been a degree of help for children buying a home but there has been a marked increase in recent years,” Bob Pannell, CML’s head of research, said. the number of first-time buyers was being held up and supported by the number of these handouts for families.
First-time buyers are being hit by another double whammy in the property market with house prices have doubled over the last five years. Uncertainty over the whole situation regarding interest rates has caused additional complications as far as the property market is concerned. The percentage of take-home pay that is having to be set aside to cover mortgage payments nowadays has risen dramatically and is now roughly 34% of all home take-home pay.
The CML found last year that 80 per cent of people believed that housing market conditions were either very difficult, or the hardest they had ever been, for first-time buyers.
The council questioned whether the growing trend for families to help their children was a good idea: “For the foreseeable future, the first-time buyer market looks to be sustained by financial help from parents and other relatives. It is not clear whether there is any natural limit to the recycling of housing wealth in this way. Over time, however, the market could become polarised – with children of existing home-owners more likely to become first-time buyers.”
As with government initiatives to increase home ownership, family support has the effect of helping to prop up house prices, making it even harder for those without property-owning families to enter the housing market. “What this does, unless supply is increased, is to make it harder for the next generation of homebuyers to enter the market,” Mr Pannell said. “It does not address the deep-seated affordability problems. This emphasises the crucial importance of expanding the longer-term supply of housing.”
A government spokesman said yesterday: “As a result of a decade of unprecedented growth, rising employment and historically low and stable interest rates there are almost 2m more homeowners than in 1997.
“The government fully recognises the importance of affordable housing for all, and has supported increasing new property completions to over 185,000 today – the highest level since 1990. We want to go further, and reach 200,000 over the next 10 years.”

Choosing the Best WAHM Website Hosting
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Before you decide on a hosting package based solely on price, you really need to think about the needs of your business, not just now, but in the near future.
For the most part, WAHM businesses are small operations, however, you don’t want to sell yourself short when it comes to choosing a hosting plan. Your budget should definitely be a consideration, but if getting the best plan for your website means stretching it a little, it could turn out to be a worthwhile investment in your business.
Before you choose a WAHM hosting package, here are 3 things you need to consider:
What does your website consist of?
A website with a few pages of text and pictures isn’t going to require a substantial amount of disk space, so a package offering 50 MB of disk space will be sufficient. However, if you have many graphics, pictures, text, scripts, and a database, then you will want to choose a package with 100 MB to 500 MB of disk space to accommodate your current needs.
Determining the size of your website is a big factor in choosing a hosting plan, so make sure you take the time to understand what your business consists of.
What are your short term business goals?
Even if you do not have a large website right now, you need to think about the short term goals that you want to accomplish. Are you planning on adding more products or services to your current line? Do you want to start a mailing list? Do you want to add scripts, such as a blog or project management program? Do you plan on increasing your traffic flow? All these things eventually add up to more disk space usage, and if you go ahead and pay for a year’s worth of hosting of a small package, you could find yourself in a jam when you run out of disk space.
Spend a few minutes jotting down your short term goals, so that you will have a better idea of how your business is going to progress in the next few months. Once that’s done, it will be easier to select a wahm hosting package that is suited to your goals.
What are your long term business goals?
A common occurrence with wahm businesses is that they tend to grow much more then anticipated, and plans quickly change. Understanding what your webhost offers in their hosting packages can save a lot of hassles in the long run, like having to switch hosting providers. Carefully review all the features and guarantees. If your future growth means adding a team of sales representatives; will you be able to do that with your hosting package?
Don’t make the mistake of jumping in with both feet just because the price is right, you have take into account the short and long term needs of your business, not to mention customer support and uptime. The last thing you want is a support team you can never get in touch with, a website that is always down, and a hosting package that doesn’t suit your business.
Review the hosting features and prices, reflect on your business goals, and make sure you ask questions if there is something you don’t know, or understand before you choose a package!
What They Don’t Advertise About Music Downloading Services: Napster vs. Rhapsody
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Both Napster and Rhapsody have a large selection of songs. Both music downloading services offer downloads for a flat monthly rate. While they may seem similar on the surface, there are some critical differences to be found when comparing music downloading services. In this article, we’ll take a look into Napster and Rhapsody’s fine print to determine which of these music downloading services is the best buy.
Compare music downloading services: Limitations
The most common complain among Rhapsody users is the poor quality of .wma files and the sluggish download time. On the other hand, Napster users commonly complain about the limited selection in comparison to Rhapsody; ironic considering that Napster was once the go-to source for all music downloads. Furthermore, those who have tried Napster say that the interface is a bit cumbersome.
And here’s the clincher:
Rhapsody only allows for downloads of .wma files, not MP3s. If you were to read the verbiage on Rhapsody’s site too quickly, you may think that you can download MP3s, but that’s not the case. If you’re using Rhapsody and want MP3′s, you’ve got to burn your songs to a disc and then convert them to MP3.
Compare music services: Streaming Music
Maybe you don’t want to deal with downloads. Maybe you just want to have the ability to listen to music from your computer. Rhapsody offers radio stations’ that allow you to listen to streaming music from artists that are similar in style to those that you have already shown and interest in. The radio stations are a great way to discover new music. They also give you access to music that isn’t yet available for download due to licensing rights.
While Napster also has a radio stations feature, it’s not as intuitive as Rhapsody’s. Your station only plays music from your current inventory, meaning that you won’t be exposed to new artists and don’t have access to music that is not yet available for download.
Choosing between music downloading services
The right choice in music downloading services most likely will depend on how and where you prefer to listen to your music. If you prefer downloading songs to your MP3 player, you might prefer Napster for its easy MP3 downloads. However, if you mainly listen to music on your computer and like discovering new artists and new music, you might really enjoy Rhapsody and its unique radio station feature.
Have You Exercised The Option To Exercise?
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
By the time I’ve worked up enthusiasm about going to the gym, I already feel overworked. Then I have to decide what to wear. Guys can look grungy. Girls have to look fashionable. Unfortunately, my outfits are often more coordinated than I am.
However, I can talk the talk – sets, repetitions, abs, biceps, triceps – and I’m getting better at walking the walk. I’m certainly better than body builders whose legs are so muscled they have to swing them to the side to walk up stairs. I try not to stare, but body builders want their bodies admired. Steroid should be spelled stareroid.
Then there are the female trainers – they all seem to have bust enlargements. Obviously, there aren’t exercises that enlarge breasts naturally.
Lots of members have trainers. Not me. I can set my own weights and count my own repetitions. As far as providing motivation, the cost of a trainer supplies more motivation than a trainer does.
The age range of the gym members is from mid twenties to mid seventies – unless regular exercise has made the mid nineties the new mid seventies.
I listen to the radio when I work out. It helps relieve the BOREDOM. Occasionally the battery dies, but the radio still helps occupy my mind because those working out next to me don’t know I can hear their conversation.
I work out with weight machines – not free weights. Free weights aren’t so free when you pull a muscle. “No pain – no gain” – thankfully, the inventor of anesthesia didn’t work out.
Thankfully, I’ve come up with a line that prevents people from asking to work in with me. I very quietly explain that exercise is a Zen experience for me and continue exercising.
In spite of having exercised for years, I’m not exactly muscle-bound and wouldn’t make much of an impression if I tried to throw my weight around. However, increasing the weight when I’m through using a machine increases my image.
When I leave the gym, I have to walk through the store – protein drinks, energy bars and outfits I might look good in if I keep exercising. Nevertheless, I’m out of the gym and into my car in forty-five minutes.
Parking is very convenient these days because the New Year’s resolutions to get in shape were forgotten long ago by people who decided to exercise their rights – instead of their bodies.
Online Dating Safety For Men
July 21st, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Almost everything you read about online dating safety is directed at women but men need to be concerned as well. Perverts, sexual predators and weirdoes come in both sexes, all sizes, and all ages
as do, liars and cheaters. So men need to stay on guard, too.
It is common knowledge not to readily give out personal information to strangers. The reason for not doing so is as large as the number of strangers who want that information. If you come across a person who is giving out personal information and asking others to do the same, dont do it. You dont know what they want to use it for
.and you had better believe they want to use it for something. That something will not be for your benefit. Men, also, need to guard their real names, addresses, phone numbers, and place of employment. Do not give that information to anyone online until you are confident that they are who they say they are.
Men, be wary of women who seem too financially needy. If they ask for money, in any of a dozen ways women can ask for money, cut the relationship off immediately. They are not looking for love or even friendship
.they are looking for financial help.
If a woman gives you a contact number but you cannot ever reach her at that number, beware. If you always have to page them or text them and have them call you back, this could be a sign that what they are telling you is not the complete truth.
A need to get married and insecurity are other signs men should be very wary of. If the woman is pushing too hard for a commitment you arent ready to make, it might be a good time to head for the nearest exit.
Malta Property Rising Fast For Euro Introduction
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Real estate investors have done well in Malta in recent years, with good annual increases in prices over the last ten years.
But with EU membership now two years old, and questions last year about Malta staying as a mainstream holiday destination, future potential became questionable.
Estate agents on the island though seem fairly confident that the rises will continue for a while yet. At the beginning of the year two leading international estate agents predicted ten per cent inflation for 2007.
One factor that investors could be taking into account when looking at the possibility of buying a property in Malta is that Malta is joining the Euro at the end of the year – something that has caused other countries real estate market to gather pace in the past.
Malta’s low taxes are also inceasingly attracting new residents this year. With tax at less than half of many other EU countries, buying real estate in Malta often makes economic sense, as well as being a home in the Mediterranean for many.
Buyers from the UK in particular often cite Malta’s low tax regime as one of their primary motives for moving to the island.
Visitor numbers for Malta have been encouraging for 2007, with rises on 2006 for each of the first three months of the year. March showed a ten per cent increase. An increased pool of visitors will almost certainly translate into more sales from overseas, with a knock on effect on housing prices.
British Investors
Ryanair’s new routes from London and Dublin to Malta have proved a success both for the airline and for the island since the launch in November of their Luton flights. Initial estimates of an extra 80,000 tourists due to Ryanair might be much lower than the true figure when results are published. Reports suggest that Ryanair might be considering further flights to Malta from different destinations. Whether this will be from the UK or elsewhere isn’t clear yet.
But hopes that popular low cost airline easyJet would provide further impetus for the Malta holiday trade seems to have been dashed with reports in the island’s press that talks have stalled, and a proposed London Gatwick route has been shelved.
A new low cost London Gatwick route would have provided competition for the island’s national airline, Air Malta, and possibly have reduced the cost of flying to Malta further.
Air Malta, the island’s national airline, has run a successful campaign to sell seats, and has opened up a new route from the North-West of England, flying from Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport.
The advantage Malta has for UK and Irish visitors is that they drive on the same side of the road and English is spoken, and for non British Isles visitors Malta has well known language schools where they can learn English.
A 2 bedroom apartment in the popular Malta holiday resort of Qawra is currently on the market for LM 72,000, and a three bedroom two bathroom apartment in equally popular Mellieha for LM 138,000 negotiable.
‘With lower fares, Malta becomes a destination viable for 3 and 4 days trips a few times a year from the UK, and that will attract buyers to look at Malta in the same way they do France and Spain when considering where to buy a holiday home abroad. The weather in Malta and low fares could be a magnet for buyers’, commented one local travel guide recently,
There is a warning however from some that property prices on the island might not necessarily escalate in the same way that regions of France have seen when low cost airlines have started flying to their region.

Causes and Symptoms of Heart Attacks in Women
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Over the years doctors were not able to clearly diagnose impending heart attacks in women. This was mainly due to their symptoms are not the same as those of men. They were often diagnosed with anxiety or panic attacks, only to experience more severe heart attacks at a later date.
Heart attacks are caused by blockages in the coronary arteries. The symptoms of most heart attacks in men are severe chest pain, nausea, shortness of breath, the numbing of the left arm, or a feeling of impending doom.
Symptoms of heart attacks in women include:
- Shortness of breath
- Pain in the abdomen, in the back, in the jaw or in the throat
- A sensation of uneasiness or feeling “sick” that is difficult to describe
Many women die before receiving medical attention. Their symptoms may have been absent, too sudden, or had not been diagnosed previously. Also, most women are not aware that they have heart problem.
Although heart attacks are more frequent in menopausal women, the incidence in pre-menopausal group has been growing.
Possible reasons for the higher mortality in women may be due to the use of hormone replacement therapy, the higher rates of depression among women, and more cardiac damage with heart attacks in women than in men.
The main identified causes of heart attacks in women are:
” Excessive sugar intake is the number one risk factor for heart attacks in women
” Excessive animal fat intake is the number two risk factor
” High blood pressure
” Smoking accounts for the vast majority of heart attacks in women under 45 and those with family histories of heart disease
” Calcium supplements cause a significant increase in heart attacks especially in older women despite benefits for bones!
” Obesity, especially in the stomach area
” Blockages in small arteries deep in a woman’s body
” Clots in blood vessels of the heart and brain
” Anxiety
” Mental stress
” Sleep disturbances
” Arteriosclerosis, the thickening of the arteries (previously termed hardening of the arteries)
” Unusual fatigue
It must be noted here that estrogen is a major culprit. It raises blood pressure (one of the top three reasons for heart attacks in women), increases triglycerides, promotes clotting (a leading cause of heart attacks), and raises levels of C-reactive protein (causing inflammation associated with heart disease)
There is good news, however! Doctors estimate that about half of all heart attacks in women stem from treatable factors (as opposed to non-treatable factors such as heredity and age):
” Enough vitamin B6 reduces heart attacks by 70%. Its “pandemic” deficiency in Western cultures is the prime cause of heart attacks, and supplements of it as the key to avoiding and curing heart disease
” Walking can not only significantly reduce the risk. Women who walked a total of three hours per week or who exercised vigorously for at least 90 minutes a week had one third fewer heart attacks than women who got no exercise
” The fats in nuts have been linked to a reduced risk of heart attacks
” Eating one serving a day of whole-grain foods reduced heart attacks by 34 percent in another study of 34,000 postmenopausal women.
Furthermore, drinking coffee does not increase the risk.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reveals that low dose aspirin therapy does not have the same benefits for women as it does for men.
The Power of Thank You Notes
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
No matter what business you are in, it is probably safe to say that your competitors are working harder to take your customers away from you than you are to keep them.
When was the last time you sent a thank you gift to a customer? I dont mean pens and calendars, I mean something useful, practical and valued.
When was the last time you sent a hand written thank you note, just to say thank you for seeing me or letting me show you my products, even when you didn’t make the sale?
You’ll be amazed at the impact it has on your business. You’ll find you’ll stand out. You’ll be remembered and people will want to do business with you.
Make it a point over the next few weeks to send a hand written thank you note to every person you meet with regardless of whether you make the sale or not. Just a few lines that say “Thank you for spending time with me. I appreciated the opportunity to learn a little more about what you are trying to achieve. I’m sorry I cant be of any help right now, but please call me if I can help in anyway in the future.”
For your clients, find some small but meaningful gift that shows them you appreciate them. Every one needs to feel appreciated.
Implement these two strategies and notice what it does for your business.

And Just What Exactly Are Spiders Afraid Of?
July 20th, 2009 by julia97 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Spiders are normally thought of by humans as scary beasts that serve no other purpose than to frighten the living daylights out of us. Well, ok, they control the fly and insect population as well I suppose, but mostly they are just not much fun to discover around the home or office.
But have you ever asked yourself, what are spiders themselves scared of?
Well, I’ve got a few answers for you…
Because they are small, spiders have many enemies.
Many of the larger animals hunt them for food. Common examples being birds, toads & lizards. It is also true that monkeys will hunt and eat them too. And they are also used as food by many of the smaller creatures in the world.
Ticks will attach themselves to a spider and eat away at it for a long time while the spider goes about its business.
But one of the spiders’ worst enemies is the Spider Wasp. They will ruthlessly and very effectively hunt down spiders and use them to feed their young larvae.
Spider wasps are found throughout most of the world. There are about 290 species in the United States and Canada and around 4200 worldwide. Most spider wasps are black, metallic blue, or reddish and measure from 1 to 5 cm (0.4 to 2.0 in) long.
The wings range from clear to smoky-gray or bright red-orange in color. Their extraordinarily long hind legs distinguish spider wasps from other wasps. Spider wasps are usually seen walking on barren ground or in tangled undergrowth searching for prey. As they walk, their wings flicker and their antennae tap the ground. They often break their restless walking with short flights.
A spider wasp quickly subdues the spider it preys on. The wasp’s sting affects the spider’s central nervous system, paralyzing but not killing the spider. Often the spider is too large to carry in flight and the wasp must drag it to the nest. Some species bite off the spider’s legs to make it easier to drag and may drink blood that leaks from the wounds.
The spider wasp places a single spider in each nest, which is often constructed after catching the prey. Some species specialize on trap-door spiders and tarantulas, using the spider’s own burrow for a nest. The wasp lays an egg on the paralyzed spider, which is eventually eaten by the wasp’s larva.
The tarantula hawk is a large, metallic blue-black spider wasp, with violet or bright reddish-orange wings. Tarantula hawks are often seen foraging for nectar on milkweed flowers. These wasps enter a tarantula’s burrow and may risk death in a fierce battle. The wasp usually wins even though the tarantula has poisonous fangs and is much larger than the wasp.
And let’s not forget another most deadly of spider predators…
You and I. Yes we humans are also big enemies of spiders. Besides stepping on them whenever we get the opportunity, the pesticides we use to control other insects will usually kill spiders too.
